
GM University was established in 2023 with the support of the Srishyla Educational Trust, a charitable foundation based in Davanagere. The founder of this trust is Sri. G. Mallikarjunappa, whose vision from the beginning was to establish schools and colleges in Karnataka for the overall growth of students. GM University, located at P.B. Road in Davanagere, is part of the GM Group of Institutions. The GM University campus is spread across a terrain of 57 acres that is teeming with greenery and serenity.
While the university itself started its journey recently, the name still holds a rich history due to the contribution of GM Institute of Technology (GMIT) towards the education sector. The institute was established in 2001 and is currently merged with GM University. The inclusion of several features by the university has led to the formation of the GMU Model. The GMU Model is classified into 4 divisions - namely, Academics, Research, Skill & Vocational Training, and Consultancy, Innovation & Entrepreneurship.
The Academic division takes a comprehensive approach towards offering undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma courses through several departments that consist of well-qualified and proficient faculty members.
From offering PhD programmes to organising funds for new research projects, the Research division is dedicated towards the advancement of research across various fields. The division plays a crucial role in setting up centres of excellence, undertaking sponsored/ grant research, organising conferences, assessments of IPR & patents and many more.
With an aim to develop an individual’s technical and life skills, GM University offers a Skill and Vocational Training Division that is further categorised into ‘School of Vocational Training’ and School of Digital Technical Competency Development’. Both schools offer extensive programmes that are curated to fulfil the global standards of an industry or a business.

GM University has a wide range of useful infrastructure available for students to utilise. The university’s management has invested in providing good amenities for the health, well-being and safety of students whilst aiding them in achieving academic excellence. GM University has a library with 2 floors and the total area of this facility is 2,540 square metres. The library has well-qualified staff and the total capacity of the library is 500 seats. The university utilises the GMU ERP software and an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) to facilitate the automatic functions of the library. Thereby, making it easy for the faculty and the students to access the library's contents. The library accumulates over 33,390 books, 80 journals, 12 magazines, newspapers & publications and is equipped with wi-fi, reprographic, etc. It is also affiliated with the VTE E-Resource Consortium, National Digital Library (NDL) and DELNET to help students access the available E-Books and E-Journals.
GM University promotes recreational activities through the establishment of a Yoga Club, Gym, and Physical Education department. The yoga club offers yoga classes to its students under the supervision of a Yoga teacher. All the students are given individual attention and are taught from the basics to the complex level. The GM university Gym is equipped with modern amenities to meet the needs of students and lastly, the Physical Education department controls the entire aspect of athletics and sports at the university. The department plays a primitive role in fostering students to be physically and mentally fit.
The GM Institute of Technology of GMU is facilitated with a GMIT Health care Centre that possesses 12 beds with two visiting doctors. The health centre offers basic healthcare facilities to students, teachers and the non-teaching staff of GMU.
Keeping the comfort and safety of students in mind, the management of GMU constructed separate hostels for boys and girls on its campus. The hostels offer twin and triple-sharing rooms for students. The hostel is also accommodated with various facilities such as Wi-Fi, RO-purified drinking water, solar-powered hot water and power backup facilities. The university consists of a multi-purpose hall that can be utilised by the hostellers for group studies as well as leisure activities. Additionally, the hostel students are encouraged to participate in activities such as ‘Swachh Bharath’, and several ‘volunteer work’, etc.
GM University has both canteen and cafeteria facilities available for students and staff. The canteen and the cafeteria menu consist of healthy food items. These items are offered at an affordable price for everyone. The cafeteria also offers a birthday celebration facility for its students and staff.
GMU has a well-organised transportation system. The members of this facility give importance to punctuality along with the safety of the students and staff. The transport department operates 20 buses and 16 routes are covered in the cities Davanagere and Harihar. Currently, around 3000 students in the university are availing the transportation service.
The Cooperative stationary store was established in 2001 to support the stationery requirements of both the students and the faculty members. The store consists of lab records, assignment books, IA books, observation books, graph sheets, manuals, student counselling reports, etc. These commodities are offered to the students and teachers at a reasonable price.
GM University consists of a department known as the ‘Collaborative Research and Development Centre’, which focuses on forming partnerships with private and public sector companies for R&D purposes. Consequently, helping in generating new ideas and creating opportunities for the growth of the students in many fields. Currently, the university has a total of 94 MOUs and 7 Centre of Excellence (CoE) with well-known national and international entities.
