The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Karnataka, has planned to introduce customized tablets for students to write exams. A trial run will be conducted for about 2,000 students of Physiotherapy and Fellowship programmes in March 2024.
As per the university’s plans, this mode of examination will help retain the sanctity of exams by curbing malpractice through the usage of face recognition and other AI tools, while also playing a major role in reducing environmental distress.
The Vice-Chancellor of RGUHS, Dr. MK Ramesh strongly believes that the switch from a Pen-Paper mode to a digitalized mode of examination will be cost-effective. The cost of one tab would be between Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 10,000 and the same tab will be used by a student for 4 years which might later be handed over to another student. Whereas now, the university spends about Rs. 7 to 8 crore every year on answer booklets alone, which includes the cost of paper, transportation charges, etc.
The university has informed that this initiative will be extended to its other programmes soon.
