“Knowledge is Power”, a phrase recognised for its accuracy in the realm of academia, has been a motivational factor for the emergence of the New Horizon Group of Institutions. The primary purpose of these renowned institutions is to provide learning opportunities and impart adequate knowledge concerning various fields of study to young aspirants from around the globe.
While the primary goal does help provide a solid foundation for future aspirants to stand on, students must also work with various models and specialised learning programmes. These programmes help build a sense of security and inclusion, while also forming an effective framework to harness the skills and knowledge required to shape tomorrow’s leaders.
This is exactly why two constituents of the New Horizon Group of Institutions, namely New Horizon Public School (NHPS) and New Horizon International School (NHIS) have adopted the Model United Nations (MUN) framework as part of their academic activity to equip students with various skills that are necessary to develop leadership capabilities.
So what is the New Horizon Model United Nations (NHMUN)?
The New Horizon Model United Nations (NHMUN), also known as New Horizon MUN, is an educational simulator that is conducted as part of a specialised learning programme at two New Horizon Institutes. They are New Horizon Public School (NHPS) and New Horizon International School (NHIS).
The purpose of this conference is to educate students about the methods and concepts that are used in understanding and debating topics related to international relations and diplomacy in the era of globalization. The New Horizon model United Nations (NHMUN) also plays an important role in helping students understand the functions of the United Nations organisation (UNO) as a whole.
As mentioned earlier, the New Horizon Model United Nations (NHMUN), Bangalore, is one of the best and most accessible ways to learn about the United Nations (UN) as a whole, while also understanding the roles of the UN volunteers and the UN job functions.
At two of the best educational Institutions i.e., New Horizon Public School (NHPS) and New Horizon International School (NHIS), the Model United Nations (MUN) simulation is held once a year in the form of a conference. Participants from various institutions, also known as delegates, represent different countries and are assigned to relevant committees to debate and discuss international affairs with respect to their assigned countries.
Now that you have a brief idea of how it works, let’s explore the advantages of participating in NHMUN.
The New Horizon MUN encourages students to harness and sharpen their critical thinking, public speaking, writing, and research skills.
The New Horizon Model United Nations (NHMUN) often acts as an entry point for students to explore various concepts in international affairs, such as the implication of peace and security, human rights, and the rules of law, that are primarily focused on the UN agenda.
By following the UNO’s framework, NHMUN, Bangalore provides learning opportunities for students to understand the primary functions of the United Nations (UN) as an authoritative body and the role it plays in world affairs.
While most MUNs are competitive by nature, NHMUN also acts as a guide for students to figure out and understand the practice of diplomacy and the decision-making process.
Ever since its commencement in 2019, the New Horizon Model United Nations (NHMUN) has fostered several young aspirants who have shown their prowess in the domains of international affairs and democracy.
The sixth edition of NHMUN was held on the 29th and 30th of August, 2024. The Best Delegation Award for 2024 was bagged by St. Joseph’s Boys High School.
During the event, many witnessed the intensity of debates concerning topics on International affairs, which eventually led to impactful resolutions and fruitful discussions among the delegates, while also nurturing a sense of assurance and integration.
Similarly, the fifth edition of NHMUN was successfully held on the 27th and 28th of July 2023. The conference was inaugurated by Ambassador N. Parthasarthi and a total of 158 delegates from some of the best educational institutions participated in the event.
The fifth edition of NHMUN (2023) came to an end with the award ceremony. Among all those who participated, the delegates of St. Joseph’s Pre-University College won the Best Delegation Award.
The growth of a community or nation can only be achieved by focusing on the development of the future while preserving the knowledge of the present. The best way to achieve this is by educating the present generation of students about how the world functions as a democratic society. For this very purpose, NHMUN’s main objective is to engage thousands of students every year, with an aim to help them learn the fundamental functions of the UN assembly.
If you are someone who wishes to make the world a better place, one step at a time, we encourage you to participate in the New Horizon Model United Nations (NHMUN) event by enrolling at New Horizon International School (NHIS) or New Horizon Public School (NHPS).
