The Government Dental College and Research Institute is a publicly-owned dental college in Bangalore. The college is the first and oldest dental college in Karnataka, having been around since 1958. The college is autonomous and is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS). The annual intake for BDS is 60 and for MDS it's 26 seats. All admissions to the college are through NEET.
The college is popular among dentistry aspirants for its infrastructure, coaching, faculty, and also for the fact that its graduates are practising dentistry across the world. The college has been chosen by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to establish a service clinic and a postgraduate programme in Preventive and Social Dentistry for the first time in our country.
It has a centre for the PhD programme in six specialities and also a centre for many ongoing WHO and GOI projects. They not only cater to patients that visit the institute but also the ones visiting Bowring Hospital, Jayanagar General Hospital, and K.C. General Hospital.
