The College of Fine Arts was established in 1964 under the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath. The institution was upgraded into a degree college in 1983 affiliated to Bengaluru Central University and has been accredited B++ grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
The college is an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission, New Delhi- 2005. It has obtained that status from the academic year 2006. The college offers undergraduate and graduates degree in fine arts.
The programmes offered at the college are Bachelor of Visual Arts (B.V.A) and Master of Visual Art (M.V.A). It has five departments that are Painting, Sculpture, Graphic Art, Art History and Applied Art.
