The Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) was founded in the year 1955 by the Mysore Education Society. The college is one of the premier Government-owned autonomous medical colleges in Bangalore. It is affiliated with the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS). 

The college has an annual intake of 250 Undergraduate, 135 Postgraduate, 12 Doctoral, and 71 Diploma students. Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute is centrally located close to 3 teaching hospitals like Victoria Hospital, Vanivilas Women's and Children's Hospital, and Minto Eye Hospital.
