Established on July 27th, 1916, the University of Mysore is the 6th oldest university in the country and the 1st in Karnataka. The public university is located in Mysore, Karnataka. University of Mysore is also known as Mysore University. The University of Mysore offers multiple Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Research Programs, diploma and certificate courses in various disciplines. In addition to the regular courses, Mysore University distance education programs are offered under multiple disciplines. University of Mysore was the vision of Maharaja of Mysore Sri Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV (1884 - 1940) and the then Diwan, Sir M Visvesvaraya (1860 - 1962). The University of Mysore was the first university accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2000 with a 5-star status. University of Mysore is now ranked 36th by NIRF-MHRD.

University of Mysore main campus is located in Mysore. It’s named Manasagangotri by the Kannada Poet Kuvempu. Spread over 739 acres, the University of Mysore’s campus contains a sprawling lake surrounded by trees, which extend to an area of 261 acres. The University of Mysore was granted autonomy status in 1956. The territorial jurisdiction of the university initially consisted of 9 districts in Karnataka. With the establishment of Bangalore University in 1964, Mangalore University in 1980, and Kuvempu University in 1987, the territorial jurisdiction of the University of Mysore has been confined to 4 southern districts of Karnataka:
University of Mysore has more than 1,20,000 UG, PG, M.Phil, and Ph.D Students. There are 63 PG departments offering 76 postgraduate programs.
Mysore University Hostel Facilities:
The University of Mysore campus offers hostel or residential facilities for the applying candidates.The residential facilities at Mysore University are considered to offer multiple facilities necessary for the students away from home. University of Mysore offers comfortable, safe, and separate facilities for both boys and girls with security facilities. The university also provides decent mess facilities for the UG, PG, and Ph.D students.
University of Mysore Library:
The University of Mysore library began functioning in the year 1918. It is one of the oldest and largest university libraries in the country. It is regarded as the Mother of other University Libraries in Karnataka. Mysore University has more than 6 lakhs volumes in its systems today. The library was previously housed in Maharaja’s College Campus with around 2,311 books and later shifted to a new building at Managasagangotri Campus in 1965. The Library foundation stone was laid by the first UGC Chairman Prof. C.D.Deshmukh on July 11th, 1960. On December 7th, 1965 it was inaugurated by the then President of India Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan.
University of Mysore Health Centre:
The Health centre at Mysore University was established in 1966. The centre provides health facilities for students, employees and their families, Guests, staff, and retired employees. The Health centre provides multiple health care facilities along with laboratory amenities.
University of Mysore Day Care Centre:
University of Mysore Day Care Centre was established at Manasagangotri campus for the university employee’s children who fall between the age group of 6 months to 4 years. The centre functions under the management of the Advisory Committee and works from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM from Monday to Saturday. The main aim of the University of Mysore centre is to provide a challenging and stimulating environment for the child’s overall development when the parents engage in university services.
