Indian Universities Can Now Offer Dual Degrees

Source : Interview Times
Students pursuing in India can now earn a dual or joint degree from higher education institutions in India and Abroad. The official notice may be released after the UGC has prepared the plan.
After the UGC seals it, the candidates can pursue their courses at any foreign educational institution after admitting them to an Indian educational institution.
But the degree or the diploma certificate will be issued by the Indian educational institutions only.
The Indian educational institutions under the proposal can negotiate with the foreign educational institution for credit recognition, credit transfer, and degree.
This rule doesn't apply to online and distance learning. Thus, there will be a certain criterion for the candidates to fulfill and obtain a double degree.
The Indian Educational Institutions that are offering dual or a joint degree program must be accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
In addition to this, the candidates must have scored 3.01 points, and the institute must be included in the top 100 universities ranked by the National Institute of Ranking Framework (NIRF).
The institutions fulfilling the criteria are required to seek permission from the UGC to negotiate with the foreign institutions.
Under the proposed rules, the degree or the diploma awarded jointly will be equivalent to the degree or diploma awarded by an Indian institution. But, the direct and indirect franchise arrangement between the foreign and Indian educational institutions will not be allowed.
