What is NHTET?

National Hospitality Teachers Eligibility Test (NHTET) is a national level exam conducted by the National Council of Hotel Management And Catering Technology (NCHMCT).

The NHTET exam allows candidates to be eligible for the positions of:

  • Teaching Associate
  • Assistant Lecturer

Only the candidates declared eligible through NHTET can apply against any vacancy for the above-mentioned positions at Institute of Hotel Management's (IHM) campuses all over India.  

Although, NHTET qualified candidates will not have any right of automatic induction in the IHMs. They have to face a separate selection process for induction as Assistant Lecturers or Teaching Associates.

Aspirants applying for the exam should have completed their full-time Bachelor's or Master's degree with a minimum aggregate score of 55% from a recognized institute.

NHTET Registration:

Candidates can follow the below-mentioned steps to register for NHTET:

Step 1: Visit the official website to register yourself before filling the application form.

Step 2: Click on the "New Registration" button.

Step 3: Enter all the required information in the form.

Step 4: Make sure that the mobile number and Email ID you entered is correct as all information will be conveyed through them.

Step 5: Confirm all the entered data and click on "Submit." Candidates will receive an email with their login credentials.

How to Fill Up the NHTET Exam Form?

Candidates have to purchase a Demand Draft (DD) from any of the scheduled banks for the required amount of application fee, before filling up the application form. This is because the DD number will be required in the form.

Step 1: Go through the eligibility criteria on the official website before filling the form. 

Step 2: Click on "Applicant Login" and use the provided registration number or your email ID, and Date of Birth to log in and fill the application form.

Step 3: After logging in, fill in the required details.

Step 4: Upload a scanned copy of the passport size photograph in the required pixel and resolution.

Step 5: Upload a scanned copy of any valid ID card such as Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID, Driving Licence, and Passport.

Step 6: Review and confirm all details, including the spellings.

Step 7: Candidates without a Postgraduate Degree in Hospitality, need to fill in the work experience details of at least 2 years in the Hospitality Industry after having obtained their

degree.

The application fee is to be submitted as DD along with the printout of the duly filled-in online application form. The candidate has to send these documents to the NCHMCT office by speed post or registered post only.

Documents Required:

The candidate requires certain documents while filling up the application form. The list is mentioned below:

  • 10+2 or equivalent mark sheet
  • Undergraduate degree certificate and mark sheet
  • Postgraduate degree certificate and mark sheet
  • Scanned ID proof
  • Scanned signature of the applicant
  • Scanned copy of the passport size photograph of the applicant
  • Caste certificate (If Applicable)

NHTET Preparation Tips:

Applicants can follow the tips mentioned below to ace the National Hospitality Teachers Eligibility Test: 

  • Stick to a Time Table - With three papers to complete in a day, time management is of utmost importance. Following a well-thought out schedule during preparation will be beneficial for the applicant.       

  • Practice makes perfect - Go through previous year question papers to have an idea about the question pattern. Take the numerous mock tests available in the market to evaluate your preparation.

  • Update your Database - The NHTET syllabus mentions that the candidate would be tested on their general knowledge and awareness. Keeping up with the news by reading the newspaper daily would help an applicant ace the questions.

  • Put your Health first - Don't let the stress of preparing for an examination get to you. Take short breaks in between study sessions to keep your mind fresh.

NHTET Admit Card:

Candidates can download the NHTET admit cards, by following the steps mentioned:

Step 1: Visit the official website of NCHMCT and click on the admit card link.

Step 2: Enter your login ID, password and verification code.

Step 3: Click on the login button and the NHTET 2022 admit card will be displayed on the screen. 

Step 4: Confirm all the details, download, and take a printout of the admit card.

It is mandatory to carry the printout of the admit card along with the original ID card that was uploaded in the application form on the NHTET exam date.

NHTET Answer Key:

The provisional answer key is made available on the official website a few days after the NHTET exam. 

Step 1: Visit the official website of the National Council of Hotel Management and Catering Technology.

Step 2: Log in using valid credentials and verification code.

Step 3: Click on the "Answer Key" link and download the answer key.

A candidate can challenge the answers with proper documentary evidence within the next 4 days only via official mail. A revised answer key will be released subsequently.

NHTET Results:

The consolidated list of both qualified and unqualified candidates will be published on the official website on or before the stipulated date.     

NHTET Passing Certificates will be dispatched to the candidates in the shortest possible time. However, till the candidate is not getting the original certificate, the one from the official site will be valid.

NHTET Cutoffs:

The candidates need to obtain the following minimum marks separately in Paper I, II, III, and the aggregate of three Papers, to become eligible for the post of Assistant Lecturer.

Further Admission Process:

After qualifying for the NHTET, a candidate will be eligible to apply for the posts of Teaching Associate and Assistant Lecturer. 

However, the final selection will be made at the Institute level through skill tests.

Pass marks prescribed in the skill test for all categories is as under:

FAQs

- Candidates in the final year/ final semester of their Master's degree can apply, provided they have passed all subjects in the previous semesters and have an aggregate score of 55% in their Bachelor's degree.

- No, the fees can only be paid via a Demand Draft addressed to NCHMCT and mailed to their office along with a printout of the filled-in online application form.

- Yes, there is a negative marking of 0.5 marks for every incorrect answer or multiple attempts in all three papers.

- The most important documents that you need to carry include the Admit card and the original Photo ID uploaded while filling the application form.

- The certificate is valid as long as the candidate is within the upper age limit as mandated by the NCHMCT.

- The application fee is Rs. 400 for Female candidates, irrespective of their category.

- Candidates have to answer 3 papers under NHTET.

- The exam is held in offline mode. Answers are to be marked in OMR sheets.

- There is no limit to the number of times a candidate can take the exam as long as they are below the upper age limit as decided by NCHMCT.

- Yes, the candidate has to solve the first two papers in the first 2-hour window, while the third paper will be solved in the next 2-hour window on the same day.
Eligibility Criteria

The aspirant has to meet the following NHTET eligibility criteria, both in terms of educational qualification and age limit.

Education Qualification:

  • A full-time Bachelor's degree in Hospitality or Hotel Management and Administration from a recognized Institute of Hotel Management with at least 55% aggregate marks, and at least 2 years of real-time working experience in the Hotel Management Industry after the completion of the course.

                                                                               OR

  • A full-time Master's degree in Hospitality or Hotel Management and Administration from a recognized Institute of Hotel Management after a full-time Bachelor's degree in the same, with at least 55% aggregate marks in both the courses.

  • Students who are in the final semester (4th semester) of their Master's degree and have passed in all subjects in the previous semesters are also eligible to apply, given that they score at least 55% aggregate during their graduation. 

Age Limit:

The maximum age in NHTET to be held from January to May will be counted as on 31st July of the same year. Similarly, the maximum age in NHTET to be held from July to October will be counted as on 31st December of the same year.
