What is the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED)? 

Common Entrance Examination for Design or CEED is a national-level design entrance exam conducted by IIT Bombay every year. 

Through this entrance exam, candidates will seek admission in Master of Design (M.Des) courses in the best colleges in the country.

CEED 2022 exam will be conducted in January 22, 2023. Registration will begin on September 30, 2022 and ended on November 9, 2022.

Aspirants have to complete their graduation in a preferred field to undertake the exam and pursue this course.

CEED Registration Process:

Candidates can follow the below-mentioned steps to register and fill-up the application form: 

Step 1: Visit the official website of the Common Entrance Examination for Design. 
Step 2: Candidates have to create a login with a username and password. 
Step 3: After creating a login, candidates have to get their eligibility criteria verified by clicking on the "Check Eligibility" section. 
Step 4: After the candidates get verified, they can proceed to fill the CEED application form. 

Step 5: Candidates have to fill in the following details:

  • Educational Qualification
  • Preferred Exam Centres

Step 6: They have to upload the relevant documents for the information provided, after which they shall be redirected to the payments page.

CEED Preparation Tips: 

The CEED entrance exam is one of the most important exams for every design aspirant. Therefore, candidates should prepare for the exam strategically to ace this examination. 

Following are some of the best preparation tips for the exam: 

  • Candidates should have a well planned-out timetable to prepare for the exam well. 
  • They should have a clear understanding of the CEED Exam syllabus and should make themselves acclimated to the CEED exam pattern by answering mock tests.  
  • Candidates should check out some of the top designers and alumni of the best designing schools to better understand how to go about the exam. 
  • They should possess observation skills to prepare for the exam more dynamically.
  • Candidates should regularly read, as that will help them think creatively and improve their communication skills. 
  • Lastly, they should be in their best health to score well in the exam. 

CEED Admit Card: 

Candidates can follow the below-mentioned process to download CEED admit card: 

Step 1: Visit the official website of the Common Entrance Examination for Design. 
Step 2: Login by using the credentials.
Step 3: Click on the link for Admit Card. 
Step 4: Candidates should check the details of the admit card properly and download it. 

Candidates should only carry their CEED admit card and a Government ID to the exam centre on the day of the examination. Anything else other than these won't be allowed inside the hall. 

CEED Results: 

Candidates have to follow the below-mentioned steps to check their CEED results: 

Step 1: Candidates should visit the official website of the Common Entrance Examination for Design. 
Step 2: They have to click on the link for CEED 2023 results. 
Step 3: Candidates have to login using their credentials. 
Step 4: Click on the scorecard and check out the details. They should take a printout of the same for further use. 

CEED Cutoff:

Candidates should clear the minimum cutoff for each participating institute to get qualified for the programs offered by the colleges. 

Candidates have to clear the CEED cutoff for Part A to get their Part B evaluated. The merit rank of the candidates is decided based on their performance in Part B. 

Calculation of CEED Cutoff: 

CEED cutoff is calculated in the following manner: a =  b + (c / 2).

In this formula, the symbols stand for the following denotations: 

a: Cutoff for Part A.   

b: Average Marks      

c: Standard Deviation    

Following are the cutoff for the candidates: 

General Candidates: a 

OBC Candidates: 0.9a

PwD and SC/ ST Candidates: 0.5a

The Final Score of the candidates is calculated as: 0.25 X (Part A Marks) + 0.25 X (Part B Marks)

CEED Counselling: 

Eligible candidates will be called for the CEED counselling process to help them pursue designing courses at their preferred colleges. 

Following are the documents that are required for the counselling process: 

  • CEED 2022 Scorecard
  • Passport Size Photographs
  • Original and Photocopy of the Educational Documents and Caste Certificates
  • Government-Issued Photo ID Card


- Candidates who have completed their Bachelors in any relevant field or a GD in Arts can apply for the exam. There is no age limit to apply for the exam.

- Candidates will be able to pursue Master of Design (M.Des) by undertaking the exam.

- Candidates have to answer 2 parts in the exam.

- Total mark for Part A is 100 while that of Part B is 200.

- Part A of CEED will be conducted in the online mode, while Part B will be conducted in the offline mode.

- 24 cities in India will host more than 70 exam centres for the exam.

- The merit list will be prepared based on the scores of Part B of the exam.

- 7 institutes shall accept the CEED 2022 scores. These are IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, and Kanpur, IISc Bangalore, and IIITDM, Jabalpur

- Dates of the CEED 2022 application process will be announced soon by IIT Bombay.

- The exam scorecard is valid for that particular academic year only.
Eligibility Criteria

Candidates have to meet the CEED eligibility criteria before they can apply for the exam.

  • Candidates must have completed their graduation degree in any of the preferred fields, or they must be in their final year of their course. 
  • Those who have done a Graduate Diploma (GD) in Arts Program can also apply for the course. 

There is no age limit for candidates applying through the Common Entrance Examination for Design, but different institutes can have separate eligibility criteria and candidates should check them before applying for the exam.
