About

Established in 1949 by Bombay legislature, Karnatak University offers courses in various departments. The university became a statutory one in March 1950. It covers Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri and Uttar Kannada districts and has several post-graduation centres. 

The university is the second oldest university in Karnatak and has 224 faculty members, 24 PG department and 4,500 students. There is 250 affiliated college under Karnataka University. It is recognised by University Grant Commission and affiliated to Bangalore University. 

The university has 21 hostels and provides residential accommodation more than 2,600 students. All the campus are self-contained and cater to the needs of the local residents. There are many specialised studies apart from 50 PG Courses, 4 advanced diplomas and 28 diplomas, 11 certificate courses, 26 M.Phil., and 42 PhD programmes
