FAQs
Nurses are involved with recording patient information, performing physical examinations, and treating minor afflictions. CNAs and LPNs are considered allied health professionals due to their limited educational scope, while RNs and APRNs are considered medical professionals because of their rigorous training and degrees.
A degree in nursing provides a range of professional skills, including the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and to support patients and their families. You also develop the ability to assess, monitor and evaluate the service you deliver.
If you train first as a nurse, you need to be aware that it is up to the employing organisation to decide on supporting the staff to do this training. Nursing and midwifery are two separate professions, and you will need to demonstrate your interest in nursing (and not midwifery) if you decide to train first as a nurse.
Nursing students can pursue nursing internship programs offered at hospitals and medical centers throughout the country.
