Sri Devaraj Urs Educational Trust was established with the focus on the provisioning of Medical Education and Social Services. The trust started Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College at Tamaka, Kolar, in 1986. Through this college, the trust sought to make a significant contribution to Medical Education, Research, and Health Care to the rural population.
The college is located 5 km away from Kolar, Karnataka. The establishments of the university and the constituent institution are located at Tamaka village, Kolar with several buildings to accommodate the medical college, administrative offices, teaching/training facilities, hospitals, and hostels.
The college has been recognized by the Medical Council of India, which includes all the courses being offered in the college. The college has also been recognized by the Malaysian Medical Council from the academic year 2009-10.

Many students have zero or minimal undergraduate background in Communication Disorders and Speech-language Pathology. By the time the students graduate, they achieve the required prerequisites from the curriculum to become proficient in the field of Speech-language Pathology and Audiology.
Nearly all faculty members have worked as clinicians and a considerable number of them are involved in direct clinical patient care. Several adjunct faculty members in the speech-language program are also involved in direct clinical care. Students also get to work with a large clinical staff.
Students are enrolled in classes that gear them up to professional standards as they near graduation. Significant portions of the classes are used to address the credentialing process as well as successfully applying for professional positions, including resume writing and interviewing. The alumni network and personal contacts from faculty members are utilized in helping the graduates seek employment. One hundred percent of the students who seek employment post-graduation are successful in finding employment
