Strategy to Crack UGC NET Examination Exam

With only two months and two weeks approximately left for the UGC NET Examination, the preparation has already started for the exam. If you are a candidate who are appearing for UGC NET in December and seeking expert guidance on how to crack it, then this blog is for you. In this blog, we will discuss the tips and tricks to qualify NET examination and get shortlisted as  JRF and Lectureship candidates.  


UGC NET examination is for students from arts and commerce background. The candidates who will qualify for the examination will be eligible for Junior Research Fellowship and Lectureship. The examination is considered to be one of the most difficult exams. More than hard work a student needs smart work to achieve the goals with quality. 


  1. Focus for more marks in Paper 1

Even though the cut-off marks for UGC NET exam is 40% for general category and 35% for reserved category, qualifying examination is not enough. Only 6% of the top students above the qualifying marks are shortlisted for JRF or Lectureship. Therefore, the goal is not to qualify but to get shortlisted. No matter which subject you opted for in UGC NET examination, no student can skip appearing paper 1. It is mandatory for all the candidates who are appearing for the examination. According to us, Paper 1 is more important and easy to score than Paper 2 because the questions are mostly based on aptitude, knowledge and logic. If you get more than 60 marks out of 100 in Paper 1, you are more likely to get shortlisted.

  1. Understanding the Topics/Syllabus for UGC NET Paper 1


Teaching: Nature, Objectives, Characteristics and Basic Requirements

This topic is based on teaching aptitude where students are asked questions based on teaching work orientation, how to implement various teaching methods and principles. The students need to understand the teaching skills to ace this section. It is one of the important topics for UGC NET Paper 1.   


Research Aptitude

This section is to understand the student?s research aptitude. The question will be based on research methods and ways of doing research on any chosen subject to arrive at a new and valid conclusion. As this is an important topic for the UGC NET examination, the students need to be thorough in this section.  


Reading Comprehension


This section of the paper cannot be done overnight as the students need to develop the required skills for reading comprehension with due practice. The students need to develop reading skills by reading every day like newspapers, feature stories, an opinion piece in editorials etc. In this section, an unseen passage will be given to the students and questions will be asked based on the reading of the paragraph. 


Communication

To prepare for this section, the students need to understand the basics of communication. They can start with the definition of communication, then nature, types, kinds, strategies for good communication. As UGC NET examination is also for lectureship, a special emphasis should be given for classroom communication to prove your teaching abilities.  


Mathematical Reasoning


This section has nothing to do with mathematics, riddles or brain teasers. It has Number Series; Letter Series; Codes and Relationships, Classification, etc. To prepare for this section, the students can check out the books available and the previous year questions. 


Logical Reasoning


This section will test a candidates? ability to think and problem-solving. The student in this section is mostly asked brain teaser which is sometimes very tricky to answer. The students need to study Understanding the Structure of Argument, Evaluating and distinguishing Deductive and Inductive Reasoning, Verbal Analogies; Word Analogy ? Applied Analogy, Verbal Classification, Reasoning Logical Diagrams; Simple Diagrammatic Relationship, Multi ? Diagrammatic Relationship, Venn Diagram; Analytical Reasoning, etc. in this section.



Data Interpretation


This is one of the most scoring topics in Paper 1.  The students need to be thorough with ratios and percentages to answer the questions asked in this section. The students need to study Quantitative and Qualitative Data, Sources, Acquisition and Interpretation of Data along with Graphical Representation and Mapping of Data in this section. 


Information and Communication Technology ( ICT )


Information and Communication Technology ( ICT ) is a similar or extensive term for Information Technology (IT). It focuses on the integration of telecommunications, computers, software, middleware, storage, and audio-visual systems that help users to access, store or transmit information. This section tests the technical knowledge of an applicant so knowing the basics will serve the purpose


People and Environment


The People and Environment section will test the knowledge of the student relating to the environment in which they are living. The students need to cover the basic environment-related topics to answer questions in this section. 


Higher Education System: Governance, Polity and Administration


Higher Education System: Governance, Polity and Administration section is based on the laws related to the Higher Education System and its structure. If you aspire to become a  teacher then this section makes the maximum sense as you will learn about the rules and policies of the higher education system 


  1. Try to attempt all the questions


In paper 1, all the questions are compulsory. There is no negative marking for wrong answers. Therefore, the candidates should attempt all the questions with maximum accuracy. Read the instructions given on the first page of the question paper carefully before you start answering. 


  1. Don't Skip Any Topic in the Syllabus


Even though some topics may look difficult, try not to skip any topic. All the topics of Paper 1 carry at least 5 marks questions. Give more focus on Teaching and Research Aptitude as most of the questions in Paper 1 are based on this section.
