Focus for more marks in Paper 1
Even though the cut-off marks for UGC NET exam is 40% for general category and 35% for reserved category, qualifying examination is not enough. Understanding the Topics/Syllabus for UGC NET Paper 1
Teaching: Nature, Objectives, Characteristics and Basic Requirements
This topic is based on teaching aptitude where students are asked questions based on teaching work orientation, how to implement various teaching methods and principles. The students need to understand the teaching skills to ace this section. It is one of the important topics for UGC NET Paper 1.
This section is to understand the student?s research aptitude. The question will be based on research methods and ways of doing research on any chosen subject to arrive at a new and valid conclusion. As this is an important topic for the UGC NET examination, the students need to be thorough in this section.
This section of the paper cannot be done overnight as the students need to develop the required skills for reading comprehension with due practice. The students need to develop reading skills by reading every day like newspapers, feature stories, an opinion piece in editorials etc. In this section, an unseen passage will be given to the students and questions will be asked based on the reading of the paragraph.
To prepare for this section, the students need to understand the basics of communication. They can start with the definition of communication, then nature, types, kinds, strategies for good communication. As UGC NET examination is also for lectureship, a special emphasis should be given for classroom communication to prove your teaching abilities.
This section has nothing to do with mathematics, riddles or brain teasers. It has Number Series; Letter Series; Codes and Relationships, Classification, etc. To prepare for this section, the students can check out the books available and the previous year questions.
This section will test a candidates? ability to think and problem-solving. The student in this section is mostly asked brain teaser which is sometimes very tricky to answer. The students need to study Understanding the Structure of Argument, Evaluating and distinguishing Deductive and Inductive Reasoning, Verbal Analogies; Word Analogy ? Applied Analogy, Verbal Classification, Reasoning Logical Diagrams; Simple Diagrammatic Relationship, Multi ? Diagrammatic Relationship, Venn Diagram; Analytical Reasoning, etc. in this section.
This is one of the most scoring topics in Paper 1. The students need to be thorough with ratios and percentages to answer the questions asked in this section. The students need to study Quantitative and Qualitative Data, Sources, Acquisition and Interpretation of Data along with Graphical Representation and Mapping of Data in this section.

Try to attempt all the questions
In paper 1, all the questions are compulsory. There is no negative marking for wrong answers. Therefore, the candidates should attempt all the questions with maximum accuracy. Read the instructions given on the first page of the question paper carefully before you start answering.
Don't Skip Any Topic in the Syllabus
Even though some topics may look difficult, try not to skip any topic. All the topics of Paper 1 carry at least 5 marks questions. Give more focus on Teaching and Research Aptitude as most of the questions in Paper 1 are based on this section.
