Companies want the best mugs on their shelf and want to place them in their greatest fit. 

Business establishments are looking for employees who are advantageous to them. Similarly, job placement in a top company is what every student looks up to before completing their final year.

Every student is skilled and ambitious. This act of matching the best companies with an ambitious and skilled candidate is known as placement.

There are two types of job placements: On-Campus and Off-Campus Placements.

On-Campus Placement:

On-Campus placements are those where educational institutes set up programs for placement drives. They partner and invite leading business enterprises to their campus for recruitment. 

These enterprises recruit from the student population by conducting tests and interviews, consisting of 3 to 4 rounds of the selection process.

Students who excel in all the rounds and ace the process are offered the relevant job profile. This way, students secure a job position in their desired company ahead of their formal graduation.

Off-Campus Placement:

Off-Campus placements are those where the educational institute has no involvement. Students need to send their CV or portfolio directly to the companies manually. 

Unlike on-campus placements, grabbing a good job opportunity is comparatively more rigid during off-campus recruitment. Many people are applying for the same job with diverse skill sets.

Searching for job opportunities can be done through off-campus recruitment agencies, hiring websites, or directly with the company, which can seem reasonably difficult. 

One needs to look out for a variety of such sites and companies that have posted vacancies. They need to check out the requirements and apply by sending their resume and appearing for the selection process. 

Factually, on-campus placements are more convenient when compared to off-campus placements.

Although it isn't a dead-end if they fail to get hired due to some reasons, they can also go for other opportunities.

Here are a few options to pursue if a student fails to get recruited during on-campus placements:

  • Freelancing:

Students can focus and excel in one particular skill and start working with various companies through freelancing.

Freelancers aren't constraint to working on one type of project or with the same set of people. Hence, they receive a more diversified experience.

  • Higher Education:

Students can choose to improve their skill set and pursue higher education if they fail to grab a job opportunity.

This will help them in upgrading their skills through learning. Also, they can look for other opportunities in their preferred field. 

  • Internship:

Working with companies as an intern is one of the best ways to gain experience and broaden the learning parameter by gaining practical knowledge.

Students can go for such opportunities which don't require them to commit all their time to an organization.

  • Government Jobs

Students can always go for public sector jobs if they fail to get recruited in the private sector. 

Such jobs have a good influence on students and are very popular amongst them. These jobs are welcoming and suit students from nearly every educational background.

Websites are designated to announce openings in government jobs, making it a bit easy to apply. 

  • Additional Specialized courses:

Often a college degree with average scores and skills doesn't impress employers. Taking up additional courses and specializing in them is extremely beneficial.

Students not only get skilled in a particular field but also gain more exposure. Such legitimate, certified courses are available both online and offline.

Adding the improvisational skills in the CV with supporting certificates can make a massive difference in the selection process.

  • Entrepreneurship:

With the world supporting startups, it isn't as challenging as it was earlier. If students have the required knowledge, an idea, and risk-taking abilities, they can go ahead in this field. 

It will require investment in capital and cheaper labour to start with, but they can only succeed if there is a constant determination to grow.

Hence, not finding a job through on-campus placement may be difficult, but it isn't the end. What's salient is to improve yourself and your skillset constantly. 

Students can also try counselling if they are unable to figure a career path by talking to professionals. It is essential to work hard and make the best of every opportunity knocking on the door.
