Getting approval from parents or government
Does feel like a covenant.
AICTE or UGC,
College approval is a must to see.
Have you ever heard of the word "college approvals" while joining a college and probably thought "what's that have to do with you getting admission to that particular college"? or "who cares about all this"? Well, you definitely should care about it.
A college approval means that the college has the rights to offer a particular course(s) by maintaining the guidelines set by the regulatory bodies. In other words, every course offered by a college/ university needs to be approved by a regulatory body (which are generally established by Central/ State Governments) that mainly invests in that field of study.
The importance of college approvals is that these regulatory bodies oversee the course's level of education in colleges/ universities and make sure it is being taught in the best possible way. These bodies also introduce new strategies and techniques to develop a particular course in all the colleges/ universities across the country.
India has various regulatory bodies that facilitate courses in colleges/ universities. Few regulatory bodies in India along with their field of study are given below:
| Regulatory Body | Field of Study |
| National Medical Commission (NMC) | Medical |
| Dental Council of India (DCI) | Dental |
| Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH) | Homeopathy |
| Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) | Indian System of Medicine |
| Veterinary Council of India (VCI) | Veterinary |
| Indian Nursing Council (INC) | Nursing and Midwifery |
| Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) | Pharmacy |
| Bar Council of India (BCI) | Law |
| Council of Architecture (COA) | Architecture |
| All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) | Technical |
| National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) | Teacher Education |
University Grants Commission (UGC) is a statutory organization of Government of India that regulates and maintains standards of research, teaching and examination in university education. If a university is not approved by UGC, your degree certificate will neither be of value nor valid. So, if you are planning to join any university in India, knowing whether that university is approved by UGC is essential.
