IIFT Exam: New Changes This Year


IIFT or Indian Institute of Foreign Trade is an entrance test for students who want to study MBA (IB) in the institute. The registration process has started on September 9, 2019, and it can be done at NTA IIFT website


Every year IIFT comes up with new changes and they can be difficult to find and follow. In this blog, we will write in detail about the changes that were brought by IIFT this year. The blog will also describe in detail, the registration process, marking scheme and exam pattern.  

  1. NTA will Conduct IIFT Exam

This year the entrance exam for IIFT will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), an independent, autonomous and self-sustained testing organisation established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India (GOI). Unlike last year, the examination was conducted by IIFT.  The registration for the examination has already started. The students can visit the official NTA IIFT website to get started with the registration process for the examination. MBA in IB is comprehensive coverage of subjects that will incorporate all the important aspects of international business. 


  1. Exam in Online Mode

The students are familiar to the offline mode of IIFT examination until now. However, from this year, IIFT examination will be computer-based till 2022. The questions will be multiple choice objective type. The students will be given 2 hours to complete a total of 114 questions. As the examination will be held by NTA, there will be some major changes in terms of registration format and fee for the examination. The application for the examination will be in online mode as well any other application will not be accepted. 


  1. Registration Process for IIFT Exam

The students need to complete the registration online. For online registration of the examination, the students can follow the steps given below. 


Step 1: Visit the official website for NTA IIFT Exam at https://iift.nta.nic.in/webinfo/public/home.aspx


Step 2: Click on the button "Fill Online Application Form"


Step 3: This link will redirect you to the page for online application.


Step 4: The candidates can check out the steps written on the left side of the website 


Step 5: Click on the button "New Registration."


Step 6: One should read the instruction carefully and follow the exact instruction displayed on the screen. 


Step 7: Once the registration for online application is done, the candidates need to note down the system generated application number. This number will be required for the students to complete the remaining steps and future correspondence. 


Step 8:  Create a password that is easy to remember and choose a security question in case you forget your password. 


Step 9: The students will have to fill their personal details, contact details, choose a password and enter the security pin displayed on the screen in order to complete the first part of the registration. 


Step 10: For a strong password, the candidate needs to use a minimum of 8-13 characters (one upper case alphabet, one lower case alphabet, one numeric value and one special character such as .!@#$%^&*-)  


Step 11: Once the first part is done, one can move on to the next step to upload scanned images of candidates photograph and signature in JPG/JPEG format. The size of the photograph should be 10-200 kb and the signature should be  4-30 kb. 


Step 12: Pay the examination fee and take a print out of the fee paid confirmation page.  


Note: the students need not complete all the steps in one go. If an application does not complete all the steps mentioned above before the last date of registration (October 3, 2019), its final submission will remain incomplete. Such forms will be rejected and no correspondence on the same will not be entertained by the managing committee. 


  1. Results will be declared within 10 days of the online exam

After the online examination, the students have to wait for 10 days to see if they are qualified for the next round. IIFT Exam result will be declared by December 11, 2019, according to the latest dates available online. The total mark for the examination is 100 and there will negative marking for wrong answers. A list of selected candidates will be uploaded to the website for the second round. Every candidate can download their scorecard from the official website by using the registration number and password. The second round will involve a writing skill test, personal interview and group discussion. 


  1. Marking Scheme and exam pattern for IIFT Exam

IIFT Eaxm will be a computer-based examination. The students need to prepare for the following subjects:

  • English Grammar

  • Vocabulary and Comprehension 

  • General Knowledge & Current Affairs

  • Logical Reasoning 

  • Data Interpretation 

  • Quantitative Analysis


The examination will be multiple choice objective type. There will negative marking of 1/3rd marks for each wrong answer. On the examination day, the students need to carry the following documents:


  • Admit Card print out from the official NTA IIFT Exam website.

  • One passport size photograph of the candidate to attach with the attendance sheet during the examination.

  • Photo ID of the candidate (PAN card/ Driving License/ Voter ID/ Passport/ Aadhaar Card (With photograph)/E-Aadhaar with photograph/ Ration card with photograph/ Bank Passbook with Photograph/college/University ID.

  • PwD certificate (if applicable) issues by an authorised medical officer. 


Note: The candidates will have to reach the examination centre by 9 am and will be allowed to enter after the given time. 


IIFT MBA (IB) aims to create professionals who will be imparted with training and education in modern management techniques and international business. It is a highly dynamic and competitive environment and students need to complete their bachelor's degree with a minimum of 50% marks to apply for the entrance examination.
