How to prepare for MICAT 2020

The MICAT 2020 is perhaps one of the toughest entrance exams for MBA. Therefore, it requires a special preparation process. However, many students do not have any idea about how to prepare for MICAT 2020. Not having a proper plan can put the students at a disadvantage.

In order to prepare a proper plan on how to prepare for MICAT 2020, students must have complete knowledge of the selection process, paper pattern, and the syllabus. The detailed analysis of MICAT 2020 is given below.

MICAT Selection Process:

The selection process in the MICAT exam is different from that of any other MBA entrance exams. It is conducted twice in a year and has the following phases:

  • Phase-I: Qualify in CAT/ XAT/ GMAT
  • Phase-II: MICAT online exam
  • Phase-III: Group Exercise and Personal Interview

MICAT Syllabus:

Students who are preparing for the MICAT exam must have the syllabus at the tips of their fingers. The MICAT syllabus is divided into three sections, as shown below:

Psychometric Test

1. Verbal Ability

2. Quantitative Ability

3. Divergent-Convergent Reasoning

4. General Awareness

Descriptive Test

All of those sections test different abilities and skills of a candidate. The candidate must show excellent time management skills as the exam must be completed in just 2 hours and 50 minutes.

Design preparation strategy for MICAT on every section:

Different subjects require different approaches and practice methods. Therefore, a student must study each subject in a different way to maximize the learning benefits. If a student wants to come up with MICAT preparation tips, then he must be aware of the nature of every section of the exam.

Psychometric test:

The psychometric test is used to test the personality of the candidate. It has no correct or incorrect answers. The questions mainly focus on asking the students about their possible reactions to a particular type of situation. Therefore, regular practice of the psychometric section can help the students get familiar with the type and nature of the questions.

Descriptive test:

The descriptive section tests the writing skills of the students. This section helps to test various traits of a candidate, such as his creativity, storytelling skills, personality skills, presentation skills, organization skills, thought process, communicative skills, etc. Therefore reading and writing can help the candidate get better at his writing abilities. The same activities can also prove helpful for the verbal ability test.

General awareness:

General awareness of the candidates is tested in almost every type of competitive exams. It would be helpful for the students to read newspapers and other books on general awareness. The student must gather knowledge about the following types of information:

  • Historical events
  • Geographical locations
  • Current events
  • Books and their authors
  • Abbreviations
  • Taglines and logos of companies

Verbal Ability:

There are many books available in the market that students can use to practice the verbal ability section. Regularly reading articles in magazines can help the students in having a better vocabulary and to score better in the test.

Quantitative Ability:

Students who have prepared and qualified in the CAT or XAT exam must be already familiar with the quantitative ability section. Such students must try to polish their skills and improve the areas in which they are weak.

Divergent-Convergent Reasoning:

Since the questions in the divergent-convergent reasoning are unpredictable, students must practice mock tests to get better at this section. Practising can enable the students to be well prepared for any kind of unexpected questions.

Work on the weak subjects:

Every student has a subject that he finds difficult to understand. However, the student must not let his weakness turn into fear. The best way to overcome any weakness is to face it.

Some tips to get better at weak subjects are:

  • Allot more time for the weak subjects
  • Understand the fundamentals
  • Revise the fundamentals regularly
  • Practice the problems regularly
  • Prepare detailed notes in an easy-to-understand language

Read and write regularly:

Reading and writing regularly can help a student prepare for both verbal ability and descriptive tests. Since the entire MICAT exam is online, it is better to practice writing skills on a computer. The types of writing that a student should practice are:

  • Creative writing
  • Story writing

Using a grammar checking tool can help the student identify the common mistakes in his writing. It will enable him to improve his writing skills every day.

Improve time management skills:

Since the MICAT online exam has a sectional time limit, improving time management skills is crucial to qualify for the exam.

If a student has to improve their time management skills, then he must practise mock tests regularly by allowing a particular time for each section.

Moreover, time management in the psychometric section is more crucial because if the student misses a question in this section, then he will be disqualified from the exam.

Practice mock tests:

The exam pattern of MICAT is different from that of the other commonly known entrance exams. Therefore, a student cannot qualify in the exam if he hasn't done any practice mock test. Practising mock test has the following benefits:

  • Improves the ability to manage time
  • Helps to identify the weak subjects
  • Enables the student to identify gaps in his understanding
  • Helps to manage the fear of exam
  • Helps to increase confidence

Revise the learned topics:

In the last few weeks before the exam, there is no use in learning new topics. During this time, students must dedicate themselves to revise everything that they have learned so far. It will help to get a clarity of the entire subject, and thus, result in an increase in confidence.

Last-minute tips:

Below are some of the tips for the students to help them get ready for the exam:

  • Get good sleep daily
  • Don't stress out
  • Don't think about the results
  • Find out the location of the exam centre in advance
  • Remember to carry the MICAT admit card
  • Be calm throughout the exam

The above guidelines can give a clear idea to the students on how to prepare for MICAT 2020 exam. Students who are serious about qualifying and securing a seat in a reputed college must start early preparation. It will help the students to have a competitive advantage over other students. It will also increase self-confidence and this helps the students to be calm throughout the exam.
