GATE or Graduate Aptitude Test application date is over. The last date was extended until October 5, 2019, with a late fee of Rs. 500 on top of the application form. GATE 2020 examination will be conducted on February 1, 2, 8 and 9, 2020, for 25 subjects. The examination will be conducted jointly by seven IITs and Institute of Science (IISc). This year GATE 2020 examination is conducted by IIT Delhi. The exam is important for students who want to take admission or financial assistance for the master programme and PhD programme in the field of Engineering/Technology/Architecture.

GATE 2020 Notification

 

According to the notification of GATE 2020, the registration for the examination is extended by IIT Delhi till September 28, 2019, in the beginning. However, due to the heavy traffic on the official website of GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS), the candidates who failed to fill their application form can complete it by October 5, 2019. A late fee of Rs. 500 will be applicable to such candidate. 

 

GATE 2020 examination will be conducted on February 1, 2, 8 and 9, 2020, for 25 subjects. There is an addition of new subject Biomedical Engineering. The examination will be computer-based for all subjects. It is an important examination to qualify for admission into M.E./M.Tech/PhD at the IITs, NITS, IIITs and CFTIs and screening test for PSU recruitment. The qualified candidates will go through counselling to get into the institution of choice.

 

GATE 2020 What's new this year?

 

Every year GATE examination authorities make some changes. For this year, the changes are as follows:

 

·         New Subject: Biomedical Engineering has been added as a new paper for this year. 

·         Late Fee: The candidates can apply for the examination till October 5, 2019, with an additional fee of Rs. 500 for the late fee. 

·         Exam Centre: The total number of the centre of examination has decreased after adding and removing a few cities and this year 199 cities will be conducting the examination. 

 

GATE 2020 Registration Date

 

GATE 2020 registration has started from August 31, 2019. The students can start the registration process by filling up the GATE 2020 application form online through the GOAPS official website. 

The students can register for the examination with a late fee of Rs. 500 on top of the normal application fee of Rs. 1,500 for general category male and Rs. 750 for SC/ST/PwD & Women (All categories). The additional late fee is US$ 20 for the application fee of US$ 50 for students who choose Addis Ababa, Colombo, Dhaka, Kathmandu exam centers and US$ 100 for students who choose Dubai and Singapore as exam centres.

GATE 2020 Eligibility Criteria

 

The students who are applying for GATE 2020 examination must go through the eligibility condition. There are many papers for GATE 2020 examination and eligibility criteria are different for different streams. ·         The candidates need to be an Indian citizen to appear for GATE 2020 examination.

·         The candidates from foreign countries will be eligible for the examination if they are still pursuing or obtained post-graduation degree in technology, engineering or science for at least four years can apply for GATE 2020.

Academic Qualification

 All the candidates who are appearing for the examination need to pass engineering/ technology or master's degree in any relevant science subject.

Age Limit

There is no age limit.

The candidates must upload some mandatory documents that are specified by the authorities. They are as follows:

 

1.    Degree certificates like mark sheets, course completion certificates and other certificates issued by the designated authorities. 

2.    The students are expected to complete the qualifying examination in the same year of the GATE examination. 

3.    In case, a student is expected to complete the qualifying examination in the same year, he/she needs to upload a Provisional Certificate Letter or a copy of marks card.

4.    If the candidates have any backlogs or failed subjects, he/she must upload the final mark sheet issued by the institute. 

5.    In case, a student belongs to SC/ST category, he/she must upload valid document proof to avail any concession in fee. 

6.    In case of a PwD (Person with Disabilities) category, the candidates need to upload the PwD certificate issued by a recognised authority. Only candidates with at least 40% impairment will be given any concession in the application fee. These documents need to be submitted during the time of admission to the allotted institute. 

7.    In case of Dyslexic candidates, a document from authorised officials needs to be uploaded in order to get the service of a scribe. 

 

*Note: The students cannot upload internet downloaded mark sheet under any circumstances.  For SC/ST certificate only authorised document provided by the officials will be accepted by the candidates. 

 

GATE organisers will allow the certificate holder of BE/B.Tech/B.Arch from professional engineering institutions like IE, ICE, IETE, AeSI, IIChemE, IIM, IIE to write GATE 2020 examination.

GATE 2020 Application Process

 

GATE 2020 application process started on August 31, 2019. The last date of application was on October 5, 2019, online on GOAPS official website. The application process is as follows:

 

·         Step 1: Visit the GOAPS official link for application and submit the name, email ID and mobile number.

·         Step 2: An enrolment number will be generated for future login purpose and the candidate will have to give a password for it. 

·         Step 3: The candidate will have to provide their personal, contact and education information with valid photo ID.

·         Step 4: Choose the GATE paper and exam centre of the candidate's choice. 

·         Step 5: Upload scanned images of photograph, signature and category certificate as per the specification mentioned. 

·         Step 6: The candidate will have to pay the application fee through net banking/debit card/credit card.

·         Step 7: Take a printout after the successful payment of application fees and submit the form through the portal.

 

After the submission of the application, the status will be mentioned as per the following category:

·         Defect Status

GATE 2020 question paper is realised by the exam authorities after the examination. In the website IIT Delhi has also provided previous year question for each individual subject with answer key. GATE 2020 Mock Test

 

GATE 2020 examination can be tough to crack but with enough practise nothing is impossible. The students who are preparing for GATE 2020 can give Mock Test.

GATE 2020 Admit Card

 

GATE 2020 hall ticket or admit card will be released online on January 3, 2019. The students will have to follow the steps below to get GATE 2020 admit card:

 

1.    In the official GOAPS website, log in with the user id and password generated during the time of registration. 

2.    The admit card will contain details and the candidate has to make a note of the following: 

o    Exam Center address

o    Name of the candidate

o    Father's name

o    Roll number

o    Gender

o    Exam day 

o    Exam time

3.    The candidate will have to check for the details if they are correct. 

4.    Finally, the students have to take a print out of the admit card as they have to carry this document to the examination centre during the time of the examination. Make sure that the photograph and the signature images are legible in the admit card.

GATE 2020 Exam Day

GATE 2020 examination will be on February 1, 2, 8 and 9, 2020. The candidates need to carry the following documents on the day of the examination:

 

·         The students need to take a print out of the admit card a day before and keep it ready for the exam day. Take a colour print out of the admit card and it is better to save a copy in your Google drive as well. The admit card will be required during the admission time and PSU recruitment through GATE. 

·         It is better to check out the exam centre a day before so that you don't have to waste time asking for direction on the day of the examination. 

·         Prepare an exam day kit a day before the examination and make sure to put:

a.            Admit card

b.            Original Photo Id

 

·         Don't carry:

a.            Calculators

b.            Electronic gadgets

c.            Phones

d.            No exam pads

·         Start early and reach before time as you are required to report one hour before the examination starts. There may be biometric verification for the examination.

·         You will not be allowed to get inside the examination hall before 35 minutes of the examination and leave before the examination is over. 

 

GATE 2020 Answer key

GATE 2020 answer key will be released by IIT Delhi for all the 25 subjects in the third week of February. The answer key will have the correct answers to the questions. The students will also have the question paper along with the answer key and they can predict their probable score with the help of the answer. Candidates can also challenge the question paper by paying Rs. 500 per question and the objects should have valid supporting documents. For genuine cases, the correction will be carried in the final answer key released by the authority. The final answer key will release on the second week of March 2020. To access the answer key, you need to submit the enrollment ID/ email address and password. If a candidate needs to correct their name, exam authorities will open the name correction facility along with the response sheet of GATE 2020. 

 

GATE 2020 Marking Scheme

GATE 2020 marking scheme will vary from paper to paper. Here we have mentioned the marking scheme with subject code in the table below:

The students are already aware of the subject codes mentioned above. These are the few points you have to keep in mind. They are as follows:

1.    For paper codes AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN ME, MN, MT, PE, PI, TF and XE, Engineering Mathematics (15%) & General Aptitude (15%) will be compulsory. 

2.    For paper codes AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, ST and XL, there will be General Aptitude (15%) and 85% of the subject chosen by the candidate. 

3.    For the correct answer of 2 marks. 2/3rd will be deducted for incorrect answer.

4.    For the correct answer of 1 marks. 1/3rd will be deducted for incorrect answer.

GATE 2020 Exam Result

The exam results will be declared for all the subjects on March 16, 2020. The candidates can find the results online on GOAPS website. To download the results, the candidates will have to fill in the following details:

 

·         Enter Enrollment id, registration number and date of birth 

·         Upon successful login to the website, the result will be displayed on the screen

·         The candidates will be able to download the GATE scorecard 2020 from the website 

 

The last day to download GATE 2020 scorecard 2020 will be on May 31, 2020. 

 

* Note: Only candidates with scores equal to or more than the qualifying cutoff will be able to download the scorecard.   

 

The scorecard will be available to download from the website till December 31, 2020, with late payment of Rs. 500.  The scorecard will not be available after December 31, 2020.

GATE 2020 Cutoff

The students need to score a minimum marks or above GATE 2020 cutoff to qualify for the examination. The cutoff of GATE 2020 examination is subject-specific and will be released in March.

The students can refer to GATE 2019 cutoff to get an idea of the score needed to qualify the examination.

GATE 2020 Counseling

 

IIT DELHI will not conduct any common counselling for GATE 2020 examination and the candidates will have to apply separately for admission for each course. For IIT, the students will have to register with GATE Common Offer Acceptance (COAP) and apply separately to the specific IIT. Offers made by each institute participating in GATE 2020 will upload it to the COAP portal for the candidates to reject or accept an offer. 

 

Acceptance process

1.    Apply: The candidate must apply to the IIT based on their GATE scores and the cutoff provided by each college

2.    Register on COAP: The students after registering on COAP can view, accept or reject admission offers 

 

Important documents during GATE counselling:

·         Self-attested copy of GATE scorecard (2018 or 2019 or 2020)

·         Photo ID proof as per government of India norms

·         Original birth certificate issued by the competent authority

·         Class X (high school) board certificate as the date of birth proof

·         Class XII original mark sheet

Other than that, the candidate who is from special and reserved the category has to provide:

1. Is GATE 2020 Compulsory for all engineering students as an exit test?

 

No GATE 2020 is not compulsory. It is clarified by The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) that GATE is not mandatory for final year students to secure a BE or BTech degree.

 

2. How many attempts are there in GATE?

 

There is no limit. You can give GATE exam any number of time. 

 

3. In what mode can I pay the GATE application fee?

 

The application fee for GATE 2020 has to be paid online. You need to take a printout after the successful payment of application fees and submit the form through the portal.

 

4. How could I know the status of my GATE application submission?

 

You can check the status of your GATE application online on GOAPS official link.

 

After the submission of the application, the status will be mentioned as per the following category.:

 

·         Accepted

·         Received

·         Defect Status

·         Under Scrutiny

·         Status after Rectification

·         Rejected with Valid Reason

 

5. Where can I access the GATE 2020 mock test?

 

The students who are preparing for GATE 2020 can give Mock Test in the official website of IIT Delhi. This mock test will help the students in the following ways:

 

·         You can find out your weak areas and improve by the time of final examination. 

·         You know the test pattern and strategise a time management plan for the examination.

6. Any new changes in GATE 2020?

 

Every year GATE examination authorities make some changes. For this year, the changes are as follows:

 

·         Biomedical Engineering has been added as a new paper for this year. 

·         The candidates can apply for the examination till October 5, 2019, with an additional fee of Rs. 500 for the late fee. 

·         The total number of the centre of examination have decreased after adding and removing a few cities and this year 199 cities will be conducting the examination.

8. Is there any extra fee charged for making corrections in the Application Form?

 

Yes, the candidates can modify the application form except the exam city with a fee to be changed during the correction period.
