CAT 2020 Preparation: Get Best Books, Study Material & Preparation Tips

Common Entrance Test (CAT) is a national level entrance exam for MBA. Many top colleges accept the scores of CAT for the admission of students. Even IIM, which is the top management school in India, accepts CAT scores.

CAT is conducted in the month of November every year. Students who start early CAT 2020 preparation usually have a better advantage at the exam. Since CAT is such a widely accepted entrance test, a student has a scope to enter a good college if he qualifies in the exam. However, without proper planning and preparation, it is not easy to qualify in CAT as more than 2 lakhs candidates appear for CAT every year. Therefore, we have provided some CAT 2020 preparation tips to male the journey easier for the students.

The students who want to qualify in CAT should be well aware of the entire CAT selection process. The CAT selection process consists of two phases.

  1. Phase-I: CAT Online Test
  2. Phase-II: Group Discussion, Written Ability Test, and Personal Interview

The students who want to get admission in IIM must get more than 90 percent in the first phase. Those who qualify in the first phase are eligible for the second phase.

CAT 2020 Preparation Tips:

Given below are some of the effective preparation tips for the students for CAT 2020 preparation:

Write down a preparation schedule:

A proper schedule that is neatly divided based on the syllabus and the amount of time available is the most effective in helping at the preparation process. It helps the students to keep track of their progress and goals. A proper schedule must have the following qualities:

  1. List of topics to be covered each day
  2. Extra time allotment for the weak subjects
  3. Specific goals for every week
  4. Specific goals for every month
  5. A few days in every month that focus only for revision

Students would feel more motivated if they reward themselves with small treats after the achievement of every goal. It helps the brain to get encouraged and work harder for the exam.

Be consistent:

Everyone who achieves their goal has consistency as a common factor. It is important to develop the habit of being consistent until the end. Some tips to be consistent are given below:

  1. Paste the timetable on the wall
  2. Reward yourself after working hard
  3. Take a break at regular intervals
  4. Meditate for a few minutes to remain stress-free
  5. Keep track of achievements and use them to get motivated from time to time

The above tips can help students to be consistent in their preparation process. As time passes, studying will automatically become a habit and will not require a lot of willpower.

Practice mock tests:

CAT mock tests are easy to find from both online and offline sources. Mock tests help the students to get habituated to the pattern of exam, and thus, they handle the exam stress more efficiently. Given below are some tips that can maximize the benefits of mock tests.

  1. Start practicing the mock tests of a particular section
  2. Practice a complete set of paper after being comfortable with sectional mock tests
  3. Set a timer for every mock test
  4. Solve the easy questions at the beginning
  5. Learn from the mistakes of every mock test
  6. Practice online mock tests if possible

Practice time management:

Even though there are 180 minutes for 100 questions in the CAT exam, the difficulty of the questions can slow down the overall speed of the students. Therefore, students must learn to make effective use of time. Some of the tips that can improve the overall time management skills of the students are as given below:

  1. Use a different time management strategy for different sections
  2. Identify the areas that slow down the speed
  3. Learn the shortcuts for the Quantitative ability section
  4. Sharpen the memory as much as possible
  5. Revise all the learned topics:

The topics that were covered during the entire preparation process need to be revised before the exam. It helps the students to get the best out of the entire preparation process. Some of the tips to make the revision process more effective are as follows:

  1. Allot the last 2-3 weeks before the exam for revision
  2. Complete 2-3 rounds of revision if possible
  3. Ask someone to help with revision
  4. Revise with friends to make the process fun

If all of the above CAT 2020 preparation tips are implemented correctly, then a student has more chances to get above 90 percentile in the CAT exam. This achievement will be a step forward to get admission in one of the IIMs or any other top college of India.
