Education Scenario in Manipur

Though Manipur has been developing in terms of education, the progress of higher education in the State is very slow in terms of quality and is not very encouraging. Students come to the colleges in the hope of getting jobs but are disappointed as the quality of education is not up to the standard. The number of competent teachers is not many. The academic interactions between teachers and students and among students have been very limited. In such situations students do not have much of a chance of developing their potentialities.

The reasons for low quality of education in the colleges has been pointed out to low rate of growth of private colleges. Also Inadequate infrastructures and proper facilities , irregular admission procedures, recruitment of incompetent teachers and financial hardship to make payment of teachers salaries etc have contributed to the same. There have been mismanagement and corruption, and lack of proper academic atmosphere except in few urban colleges in the State.

A major setback in the quality of education is the frequent bandhs, strikes and boycotts. Lack of students' knowledge and skills necessary to cope with the demands of their courses, Discipline, commitment, Non existence of adequate academic atmosphere, parental and government support and existence of corruption are some the reasons which has led to the problem of unemployment in the State.
