Created on 1st November, 1956 and formerly known as Mysore, Karnataka was given its final name in 1973. The state is situated on the western edge of the Deccan Plateau and surrounded by Maharashtra and Goa on the north, Andhra Pradesh on the east, and Tamil Nadu and Kerala on the south and the Arabian Sea to the west. The major rivers flowing through the state are the Cauvery, the Krishna and the Godavari with their tributaries.

Bengaluru which is the largest city is the capital of the state. This city is leading in the rapid economic and technological advancement that India is experiencing.

Its pleasant climate, friendly people, and its highly educated population have made this city a living paradise. Many multinationals are setting up their bases in India and head offices in Bangalore. The reason why it is called the silicon valley. Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister rightly termed this city as "India's city of the future". The city is also called the "Garden City of India" because of its lush green gardens and clean boulevards. Last but not the least Bangalore is famous for its Pubs. It is also called the Pub City as it is the only city with over 200 Pubs all over the town.

The official language is Kannada. The state has also produced noble poets and academicians and it accounts for great treasure of Gold, Spices, Sandalwood, Coffee, Areca, paddy and coconut. Karnatake is also a great supplier of silk fabric.

The state's rich natural resources, pleasant industrial climate, diversified topography, varied soils gives the state a fortunate advantage and adds importance to the business map of India.

Karnataka's uniqueness lies in its cool weather. The pleasant weather is the main reason why lot of people visit Bangalore. Climatic condition of this region is dependent on the altitude, distance from the sea and its topography. The climate of Bangalore in Karnataka is dynamic. Bangalore is often called as the air conditioned city. The best time to visit the state is from September to February.
