Himachal Pradesh is a state in northern part of India and shares the border by Jammu and Kashmir on the north, Punjab on the west and south-west, Haryana on the south and by the Tibet which is an autonomous region of China on the south east.

The state was declared a union territory on 1950 but after the State of Himachal Pradesh Act 1971, Himachal emerged as the 18th state of the Republic of India. The state got its name Himachal from the word Hima in sanskrit which means snow, and the literal meaning of the state's name is In the lap of Himalayas.

Himachal Pradesh is one of the most beautiful states in the country. It is a mountainous region and is blessed with fascinating crystal lakes, attractive flowers, prehistoric shrines and lovely people. The Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar ranges, the great Himalayas and the Shivalik ranges surround the state which makes it a fascinating place for visit.

Due to the various geographical factors, the weather of Himachal alters with the change in altitude. It varies from hot to hudid in the pains and extreme cold and snow in the high altitudes. Heavy snowfall during winters is a common feature. The best time to visit the place is from September to March.

The state's economy is largely dependent on farming, horticulture, and livestock raising for their livelihood.

Roads are the best communication lifeline of Himachal Pradesh as due to the hilly landscape, it is difficult to lay railway tracks. Yet, the state is connected to railways and airways conveniently.

Himachal Pradesh boasts of remarkable achievement in the field of education. The government has made continuous efforts in promoting education in all possible ways.
