Ethiopia is the most populous landlocked country in the world. It is officially known as the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, a country located in the east-central Africa. Its capital is Addis Ababa. The country is bordered on the west by the Sudan, the east by Somalia and Djibouti, the south by Kenya, and the northeast by Eritrea. It has varied physical features comprising of high mountains to rivers and manmade reservoirs. While Amharic, the country's official language, is spoken by more than half of the population, English and Arabic are also spoken widely spoken.

Christianity was the recognized religion.

Formal Education in Ethiopia is composed of six years of elementary school, two years of junior elementary, and four years of senior secondary. Most children start school at the age of five.

There is lack of Social awareness that education is important. Children in rural areas are less likely to go to school than children in urban areas. Most rural families cannot afford to send their children to school as parents believe that their children would not be able to contribute to the household chores and income.

Formal education in Ehiopia began in 1908. The government took steps to build new schools close to the villages. The government also started the National Literacy Campaign Coordinating Committee in 1979 to raise literacy rates. The government is trying to make improvements in the system of education in Ethiopia, however these changes are occurring at a very slow rate. There are many factors that need to be addressed and improved. Revised Curriculum, sufficient funds and new techniques for teaching should be improvised.
