Daman and Diu once which was administered as a single territory until 1987, until Goa was granted statehood, it left Daman and Diu as separate Union Territory. This Union Territory is located on the coastal area of the Arabian Sea and is not known to have two districts: Daman District and Diu District.

The official languages known to people are English, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi. Though Portuguese language is in decline as it is no longer taught at school or spoken, a number of elderly people can still understand it.

Places to Visit in Daman and Diu

This Union Territory with natural and serene beauty makes the place worth visiting. To name a few tourist places in the territory are the Jetty Garden at Nani Daman, Lake Garden of Kadaiya, Mirasol Water Park, Diu Fort, Forte do Mar, Bom Jesus Church, Gangeshwar Temple, Devka Beach, Jampore Beach, Nagao Beach and Kachigam Water Tank, Shaking Tower in Delwada amongst the others. The best time to visit the islands of Daman and Diu is during the months of September to May.

Daman & Diu weather is prevailingly pleasant in nature. The climate is usually dry and sunny all round the year and is marked with low moisture levels. As strategically located near the sea, the union territory experiences a maritime climate which is generally calm, cool and breezy.
